Hormone Replacement in Edmonton

For BHRT & TRT we begin with blood hormone testing

Focusing on both Men's and Women's health

Options individualized based on symptoms and lab results

Bioidentical Hormones

We have partnered with a Nurse Practitioner to offer BHRT to our Edmonton patients.

DHEA, Progesterone, Estrogen, and Testosterone can often be intermixed with natural therapies.

Thyroid replacement is also something our Nurse Practitioner commonly works with.

The need for BHRT depends on your initial test results and symptoms.

For those looking strictly for BHRT you can book in directly with our Nurse Practitioner.

Testosterone Replacement

Our Nurse Practitioner also offers TRT to our Edmonton patients.

Total / Free Testosterone, LH, FSH, DHEA and Estradiol are key metrics measured via blood.

The need for TRT depends on your initial test results and symptoms.

Replacement aims to maintain concentrations within an appropriate physiological range.

Our program involves ongoing clinical assessment and precise laboratory monitoring.

For those looking strictly for TRT, you can book in directly with our Nurse Practitioner.

Focusing on hormone health

Key Hormones:

Cortisol - Is released from the Adrenal glands and is critical for energy production.

Cortisol and thyroid hormones share a tightly coupled, bidirectional relationship

We often see co-existing Adrenal and Thyroid hormone issues in our Edmonton patients.

Your hormone replacement visit will include a blood cortisol measurement.

DHEA - DHEA is, like Cortisol,  is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands.

DHEA is an androgen, and has similar qualities to testosterone.

Levels tend to decline with age.

A common goal is ensuring that you have age appropriate levels of DHEA.

DHEA can be prescribed by our Nurse Practitioner as part of your HRT treatment.

Testosterone - Produced primarily by the testes in males and in smaller amounts by the ovaries and adrenal glands in females.

Testosterone levels vary throughout the day and are generally highest in the morning.

Blood Testosterone testing is able to show us total testosterone, free testosterone as well as bioavailable testosterone levels.

Testosterone is the most commonly prescribed Hormone Replacement at our Edmonton office.

Hormones continued:

Estradiol - Estrogen is a group of hormones that includes estradiol, estrone and estriol.

For Hormone Replacement purposes we work with estradiol and estriol.

Estrogen levels decline as women enter into menopause.

Estrogen replacement is commonly sought after for relief of menopausal symptoms.

Bioidentical means they have the same chemical structure as what we make in our bodies.

Progesterone - Progesterone is a steroid hormone produced primarily by the ovaries after ovulation.

At our office, we usually only work with Bioidentical Progesterone as opposed to synthetic Progestins.

It's involved in regulating the menstrual cycle and preparing the uterine lining for pregnancy.

Production drops substantially during the menopausal transition as ovarian function changes.

Progesterone is considered alongside estrogen when assessing needed menopausal hormone therapy.

Thyroid - The thyroid gland produces thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) as well as T1 and T2.

T3 is the most biologically active and plays an important role in regulating metabolic processes.

Hypothyroidism is characterized by a failure to secrete enough hormone to meet the body’s needs.

Thyroid hormone has very widespread impact on the body, as such low levels can result in many symptoms.

Function is commonly assessed at our office using thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) as well as free T3 and free T4 and thyroid antibodies.

There are numerous thyroid replacement options - our Nurse Practitioner will let you know which is most appropriate for your case.

BHRT FAQ

What is bioidentical hormone replacement?

"Bioidentical" refers to sex hormones, such as Estrogen and Progesterone that have the same molecular structure as the hormones produced in your body.

Why would someone need hormone replacement?

As we age, hormone levels tend to decline with age until their production precipitously drops (what we call andropause and menopause) which can then result in a range of "low hormone" symptoms.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement allows for restoration of hormone levels.

How do I know if I need bioidentical hormones?

We rely primarily on testing in addition to clinical symptoms to determine if hormone replacement therapy is right for you.

Prior to your initial BHRT consultation, you will do a large set of comprehensive hormone testing - this is complementary.

Testing for BHRT and TRT eligibility is primarily done through blood work at our office.

Thyroid Hormone Replacement

Hypothyroidism occurs when the body has insufficient thyroid hormone activity.

At our office, thyroid function is assessed primarily through laboratory testing, including TSH, free T4, free T3 as well as thyroid antibodies.

Thyroid hormone replacement can be used to restore thyroid hormone levels to an appropriate range.

We work with a number of different thyroid hormone replacement options at our Edmonton office.

Treatment is based on individual assessment and laboratory findings.

Comprehensive Hormone Optimization and Infusion Therapy in Edmonton

At TruMed, we believe effective hormone optimization requires more than simply treating laboratory numbers. Whether you are seeking Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) in Edmonton, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) in Edmonton, or advanced infusion therapies such as Iron Infusions in Edmonton, our approach begins with understanding your unique health history, symptoms, lifestyle factors, and laboratory results.

Thyroid Hormones influence nearly every aspect of health, including energy, metabolism, mood, sexual function, muscle maintenance, sleep quality, and overall vitality. When hormone levels become imbalanced, symptoms can develop gradually and may significantly impact quality of life.

Our Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive Thyroid hormone assessments and individualized treatment plans designed to identify underlying hormone imbalances and determine the most appropriate therapeutic approach.

Why Comprehensive Hormone Testing Is Essential Before Starting TRT

Testosterone Replacement Therapy should never be based solely on symptoms or a single laboratory result.

Many symptoms commonly associated with low testosterone — including fatigue, decreased motivation, reduced muscle mass, difficulty losing weight, low libido, erectile concerns, poor concentration, and changes in mood — can also occur due to other medical conditions.

Before recommending Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Edmonton, TruMed performs a detailed hormone evaluation to determine:

  • Whether testosterone levels are clinically low
  • Whether symptoms correlate with hormone changes
  • Whether other hormonal or metabolic factors may be contributing
  • Which treatment approach is most appropriate for your individual goals

Our goal is not simply to increase testosterone levels. Our goal is to identify and address the underlying factors affecting your health and hormone balance.

Advanced Hormone Testing Available at Our Edmonton TRT Clinic

A complete hormone assessment provides valuable insight into how your endocrine system is functioning.

Depending on your symptoms and health history, testing may include:

  • Total Testosterone
  • Free Testosterone
  • Estradiol (Estrogen)
  • Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
  • Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
  • DHEA-S
  • Prolactin
  • Thyroid hormones (TSH, Free T3, Free T4)
  • Cortisol
  • Complete Blood Count
  • Additional metabolic markers when appropriate

Evaluating these markers allows our team to better understand whether testosterone deficiency is related to age-related hormonal changes, impaired hormone production, lifestyle factors, metabolic health, or another underlying issue.

Some men may benefit from testosterone replacement therapy, while others may benefit from strategies designed to support natural testosterone production or address contributing health factors.
